Questions

How do I add HST to a price?
Multiply the price before tax by the HST rate and add it on. In Ontario, $100 plus 13% HST is $113. The calculator does it for every province.
How do I take HST out of a total?
Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. In Ontario, $113 divided by 1.13 is $100 before tax, so the HST in it is $13. Choose “Tax included” above.
Which provinces charge HST?
Ontario (13%), Nova Scotia (14%), and New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island (15%). British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba charge GST plus their own provincial tax, Quebec charges GST plus QST, and Alberta and the territories charge GST only.
Do I have to charge GST/HST?
Once your taxable sales pass $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters, you have to register and start charging it. Below that you're a small supplier and registering is optional.
