- Is this quote template really free?
- Yes. There's no sign-up and no watermark. Fill in the form, then choose Print or save as PDF. Nothing you type is sent to Spark or anyone else.
- What is the difference between a quote and an estimate?
- A quote is a fixed price for a defined job: if the customer accepts it, that is the price. An estimate is your best guess, and the final bill can change. Use a quote when you can price the whole job, and an estimate when you can't see everything yet.
- Should a quote include GST/HST?
- If you're registered, show it. The customer is comparing what they will actually pay, and a quote without tax looks cheaper than the invoice that follows. Pick the province of supply and the template adds the right tax.
- Is a quote legally binding?
- A quote the customer accepts can form a contract, so put what is and isn't included on it and get the acceptance in writing. For consumers, some provinces limit how far a final bill can go over an estimate; Ontario's consumer protection law generally caps it at 10% above the estimate unless the customer agrees to more.
- How long should a quote be valid?
- Thirty days is common. Use less when your costs change quickly, like lumber or fuel, and more for slow decisions such as a commercial job going to a board. The template puts the valid-until date on the quote.
- How do I save the quote as a PDF?
- Click Print or save as PDF, then choose Save as PDF as the printer. Only the quote prints, not the form or the rest of the page.
- Does it remember my details?
- Your business name, address and GST/HST number are saved in this browser on this device, and shared with the invoice template. Customer details and line items are not saved.
